Vice President, Publishing
Jerry Steinbrink is Vice President of Publishing for Consumers Union (CU), an expert, independent, nonprofit organization
whose mission is to work for a fair, just and safe marketplace for consumers. CU publishes Consumer Reports and ConsumerReports.org. Mr. Steinbrink provides business leadership for all of CU's information products and is responsible for overall product management,
marketing, publishing operations, franchise team leadership, and new product and applications development.
He has nearly 30 years of experience as an award-winning magazine editor, web editor and developer, multi-media publisher,
marketer, and business leader. He brings a broad array of content, marketing, branding and product development experience
to his day-to-day responsibility for the operations of CU's general-interest media, including Consumer Reports magazine, ConsumerReports.org, and Consumer Reports Television (CRTV).
Charged with driving strategy to increase Consumer Reports' revenue and impact through subscription growth and new product development, Mr. Steinbrink has achieved significant revenue
growth; expanded the market coverage of CRTV syndication, and developed several new subscription products including ShopSmart Mobile, a cell phone application that provides real-time product Ratings and prices.
Mr. Steinbrink created the long-term product development strategy that CU has adopted as its blueprint for future growth.
He oversees a marketing and circulation operation that encompasses direct mail, e-mail, television, print and Web-based advertising
campaigns.
Previously, he was Senior Director and General Manager, Information Products, at CU. Steinbrink joined the organization in
2001 as Senior Director and General Manager of New Media, directing the day-to-day operations of ConsumerReports.org. Under his leadership, the site doubled its subscribers in 18 months, and broke through to its status as the most successful
paid-subscription publication-based Internet site in the world. Before joining CU, Steinbrink served the company as a consultant,
working to develop revenue-enhancing digital products and directing a complete redesign of the site.
Earlier in his career, Steinbrink amassed considerable experience in electronic publishing and marketing. He was a leader
in establishing Manufacturing.net, the largest and most successful manufacturing B-to-B Internet site in the world, and served
as Executive Director of its Internet precursor, Manufacturing Marketplace. He also occupied similar electronic publishing leadership positions with Cahners Business Information, the Chilton Company,
and Manufactura.
Mr. Steinbrink is a 1976 graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, where he earned a B.A in Journalism with a Magazine
Concentration. He has been interviewed in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Business 2.0, Crain's Chicago Business, InformationWeek and other key publications, is a frequent speaker at media events, and was tapped as one of Folio's "40 Publishing People
Who Make A Difference."
