We LOVE our Blueair 601!
By Free Breathers from New York, NY on 1/28/2010
Pros:
Best CADR in the market, Easy to maintain, Easy to move, Quiet on lower settings
Cons:
Big machine, Noisy on high setting
Best Uses:
Allergies, Asthma, Bedroom, Living Room, Neighbors who smoke
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We've owned two Blueair 601's in our apartment for three years now. Since this was the ONLY unit that Consumer Reports rated as "Excellent" for both smoke and dust removal, we knew it would be our choice. While pricey ([$]per unit), we use the SmokeStop Filters for both, even though we don't smoke. Our neighbors do smoke, and sometimes their smoke seeps into our home. The air filters clear the area of cigarette smell, so now it's impossible to detect their habit in our apartment. The 601 has the highest Clean Air Delivery Ratings (CADR) as administered by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. I have allergies and asthma, and my symptoms have been kept at a minimum due to this product. We DO use it in the bedroom at a high setting (4), and the noise it makes is like a "white noise". We also use it in the living room, but on a lower setting (3), so we don't have to raise the TV volume any louder than normal. There has never been a time where we had it at a 1 or 2 due to noise levels, so it's performance is usually between 80 to 100%. When cleaning around the home, the units can be moved easily due to the 4 floor casters which allow the unit to roll. I will take a vacuum to the outside of the air intake and outlet areas. When I replace the filters every six months, I easily vacuum the insides of the units. I purchased these refurb units from an authorized dealer [...], so I got a very reasonable price reduction from the retail cost. Since it was an authorized dealer, I had also qualified for a $150 rebate on air filters (per unit).I am now thinking of purchasing a 3rd unit, the 650E, which has some additional features. I eagerly await the Consumer Reports review prior to my purchase.

I have two Blue-Air 601s. They have helped my dust and mold allergies so well I can sleep at night. I also find I have a safe haven during high pollen and high ozone days with these air purifiers. When cleaning the house, I turn both on high. Once a week I leave the one in the living room on high for the day and when I come home - the air in my apartment is so clean, any allergy sympstoms go away within 30 minutes. Very expensive, wish I had a CR subscription earlier. But, I love my Blue Air.
