About - Black & Decker SmartBrew DCM2000

The SmartBrew DCM2000 is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the SmartBrew DCM2000 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew temperature:
Brew temperature is the ability to reach 195°F or more for six minutes.

Convenience:
Convenience reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, cleanup, and clarity of controls.

Carafe handling:
Carafe handling covers handle comfort, tendency to drip when pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve containers, or are dispenser-style. Dispenser models hold the brew in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Cheap because it's cheap
By an outrigger canoe in every soupbowl from Wash state on 1/24/2010
Cons:
Availability of carafes, Doesn't heat too well, Low quality power switch
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

weekly use.decent coffee (for me, the occasional coff drinker) and it doesn't burn the coffee for quite awhile after brewing, the price is right, I like that I can pour a cup from the carafe while it's brewing. The illuminated power switch fell out--a spring in the switch overcame whatever element kept it in; I had to drill out the nonstandard screws that kept me from quickly replacing the power sw; works great now with the parts ($5) I got from [...]. I have this irrational fear that something will break that I can't fix. If the carafe goes, I hope *somebody* will have them.

Am looking to replace it...

Pros:
Easy Clean, Easy fill, Fast brewing, Very good coffee
Cons:
Died after 9 months, Hot plate rusting
Best Uses:
Everyday
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This was a daily use 2-4 cups.
Hot plate started to rust after 2 months. It did not affect the performance or flavor just the looks. Completely died after 9 months. It was inexpensive, but I would have gladly paid more to get a more reliable machine.
