About - Waring Pro CMS100

The Waring Pro CMS100 is part of the coffeemaker test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, drip coffeemaker models like the Pro CMS100 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Brew performance:
Brew performance is the ability to reach 195°F or more for six minutes.

Convenience:
Convenience reflects ease of filling the reservoir, placing the filter, gauging the amount of coffee remaining, cleanup, and clarity of controls.

Carafe handling:
Carafe handling covers handle comfort, tendency to drip when pouring, balance of a full carafe, and how easy it was to empty the last liquid. Models with no score here brew into single-serve containers, or are dispenser-style. Dispenser models hold the brew in a tank; you fill your cup by pressing it against the dispenser lever.

Comment:
The pros of the coffee maker are essentially pointless, as it developed an unfixable water leak after less than a year, and is now unusable. Given reviews here and on [@], it seems to be a common occurrence. Our previous coffee maker, a Krups, cost about twice as much as this one, but lasted eight years. We cheaped out on this one and learned our lesson.

Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
Leaking appears to be a frequent problem. Check Amazon reviews. Ours started leaking (a lot, maybe 1/4 cup per brew) after 10 months, after 100-200 brews. It leaks from the rear base, the base of the reservoir you pour the water into. We stopped using it. It made really good coffee, but we can't afford to buy a new[$] coffeemaker every year.

Comment:
We were perfectly satisfied with our coffee maker at first. The carafe poured easily, and it made great coffee. The done signal was loud but didn't really bother us. We loved it until we kept noticing water on the counter. We accused each other of spilling until we saw that the water tank was leaking. It was great while it lasted, though.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
