We like this coffeemaker a lot, and it was a great price. It does a good job with no excess and expensive bells and whistles. BUT... The leaky lid on the carafe is a real pain in the neck. It leaks coffee onto the counter nearly every time you pour a cup. No amount of slowing the pour, being sure the pot is not twisted when pouring, etc., makes any difference. We thought the carafe must have a crack in it at first. We think this is a safety risk -- water on the counter right next to an electric appliance, sometimes running under it -- probably fine 99% of the time, but use it everyday and you will sooner or later encounter the 1% time when you risk a serious accident. We now move to the sink to pour, not a convenient solution.

I make a pot of coffee each morning. Half of the water ends up on my counter when I try to fill the reservoir and half of the pot of brewed coffee ends up on the counter when I go to pour a cup. I hand wash the carafe so the leak is not from misuse or mishandling. A review of complaints on other sites shows this is a VERY common issue with B&D carafes. Advice: Do not waste your money. Any money you save on this coffee maker will be spent (plus much more) on the paper towels you will have to use to clean up after each and every pour.
