About - Bosch SHX98M0[9]UC

The Bosch SHX98M0[9]UC is part of the dishwasher test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, dishwasher models like the SHX98M0[9]UC are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing:
Washing performance is assessed by running the normal or equivalent cycle to clean a full load--10 place settings of very dirty dishes that were scraped but not rinsed. We examine the dishes and glassware after cleaning for residual food.

Energy use:
This is for a normal cycle. The largest portion is needed for heating water, both at the water heater and in the machine.

Noise:
This was judged during fill, wash, and drain, mainly by a listening panel.

High End Dishwashers are not reliable

Comment:
repeated sump pump failure, evidently too common for bosch to stand behind. Customer service is like the motor vehicle administration. [$] plus two repairs down the tubes. Don't buy bosch.

Comment:
We have had two Bosch dishwashers, purchased because of their reputation for being quiet.
The first one had a control-panel short-circuit which caused smoke to come out from the front panel. This dishwasher was repaired under warranty but lasted less than 6 years.
We replaced it with another Bosch, still wanting that quiet but leery about reliability. Sure enough, almost to the day of its seventh birthday, the motor bearings failed.

The final kicker? Bosch service is no longer available in many areas, including ours here in Ontario Canada. Our local dealer has stopped carrying them. Bring on the Kitchen Aid! We had one that lasted 10 years so we are going back to them. And their noise ratings are now comparable to Bosch anyway.

Comment:
This is an amazingly quiet dishwasher, but that is it. Nothing else about it is good. I owned this thing for 18 months and had the serviceman out at least 6 times to replace almost every part except the cabinet. All that and it doesn't clean well at all. Dishes were always dirty and glasses always spotted. All this for[$]...but it was quiet. Replaced it with a $1400 Electrolux which breaks down and doesn't clean at all...but it is quiet! Someone please tell me a quiet dishwasher that CLEANS the dishes!
