About - GE JB700DN[WW]

The GE JB700DN[WW] is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric range models like the JB700DN[WW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful element could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3 quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the ability of the lowest power element to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful element to its lowest setting to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

My friend has had this stove for 5 years and she really likes hers, so when my old stove bit the dust, I bought one like it! It's awesome! I love the way it looks and the way it COOKS and it's so easy to clean! The oven heats up quickly, too. Please ignore the negative reviews on this stove....I would recommend it to all!

Comment:
I cook daily and bake often. Or rather I have for twenty years until I bought this range. I have had nothing but trouble with the oven temp not being consistent and have had GE repair techs out four times now. One tech cranked the temp up +30 degrees, the next cranked it down. And they're all men who don't cook or bake, and have the nerve to stand there and insinuate that I don't know what I'm doing. Things simply do not cook through on the bottom and get too brown on top and I think it is because of the so-called hidden bottom heating element. In other words, there is no bottom heating element inside the oven. It's hidden beneath the bottom of the oven somewhere. It is just a poor design. Period.

I agree about the long wait for the oven to pre-heat. Twice as long as my old oven.

And ditto on the trench around the cooktop that is there ostensibly to trap and collect food that is impossible to get out. What were they thinking?

Another annoying feature is the heat vent at the top of the oven door under the oven handle. Every time I go to grab the oven door, my fingernails get caught in those vent slots, not to mention how liquids on the stove sometimes bubble and splash down into the vent slots which then requires disassembling the oven door to get in there and clean the glass.

I don't know what Consumer Reports was thinking making this thing its best buy. Worst range I've ever had.

Bought this range for a kitchen remodel of our primary residence to replace a 30-year-old wall oven and cook top that were on the fritz. It has nice features such as power boil which heats up water in no time. Lots of different size burners. We haven't used the oven very much other than to heat up a couple of pizzas, but it seems to heat evenly and have an accurate temperature.Cleaning the stove is a dream. I don't find the crevice around the edge to be problem for cleaning, but we aren't cooking gourmet meals for a large family either, just two people using it for making simple dishes. Only a few cons: My boyfriend doesn't like that you have to reach across the stove to adjust the dials. It seems the majority of ranges at this price point are designed that way. Also, the drawer seems a bit awkard and doesn't open and close easily, even with the 4-foot cord that was recommended. Definitely order a 4-foot cord which wasn't available at our [...] (they only had 6-foot) so we ordered on-line. Those extra two fee behind the drawer would probably make it impossible to keep the drawer closed. All in all, great product for the price.
