About - Whirlpool GFE461LV[Q]

The Whirlpool GFE461LV[Q] is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric range models like the GFE461LV[Q] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful element could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3 quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the ability of the lowest power element to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful element to its lowest setting to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

Comment:
This model replaces an older one in our home. We have a small kitchen, and with only two people to cook for most of the time, we don't need top-of-the-line appliances. This range caught my eye in the store because of the 12 burner and the warming zone. I actually got more features than I wanted at a really modest price. I love the way the two front dual-zone burners let me match to pan size. I became addicted to the keep-warm zone on the old model, and I know I would not be happy without one. The added benefit of the keep-warm function in the oven is even better. The timer delayed self-cleaning feature, the quick steam-cleaning option and convection baking are all bonus items. The only negative with this new model is that the stove top elements take a little bit longer to warm up. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars.

Comment:
I feel that it's cheaply made. The door almost falls open by itself and it's very slim and too light weight. The bottom draw is so cheap, small and hard to open--gets stuck on the tracks feels like a toy. I ordered it from online so, did not see it in person. Just went by the Whirlpool Gold recommendation which was suppose to be top of their line. LOL! I got the GFE471-paid [$]My last range was so heavy, the door was substantial. The whole range was quality so, this Whirlpool is a big disappointment. Feels more like a kid's toy to me than an appliance that will go the distance.
