About - Maytag MGT8885XS

The Maytag MGT8885XS is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, gas range models like the MGT8885XS are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful burner could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3-quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the gentlest burner's ability to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful burner to its lowest flame to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

Comment:
We've had this stove about 6 years now & are forced to buy another control panel at @ $500.00 installed. This is panel #4.
It's pretty disgusting when you spend this amount of money & get nothing but junk.
Good bye Maytag & all the other appliances manufactured under this name brand umbrella.

Comment:
Worst appliance I've ever owned. In my previous 38 years of owning ovens I NEVER had a service call. Since purchasing this MAYTAG oven I've personally kept the MAYTAG repairman employed. What a piece of J-U-N-K. I would not recommend this or any other MAYTAG / Whirlpool manufactured appliance to my enemies. Why can't
I give it 0 stars?????

Cons
Constant Humming
Best Uses

Comment:
The day after installation my wife noticed a humming sound coming from the dials. I could feel some of the dials vibrating. We called for service and the technician said that's the way it is, you'll have to live with it. Since then, all the dials now produce the vibration and sound. The technician identified the source as a transformer that powers the solenoid which opens when the power is on to let the gas flow. New rules require this fail safe mechanism. In addition the control panel is noticeably incomplete without a number pad to input temperature selection and time.
How long have you owned it:
A month or less
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
