About - Maytag MGT8885XS

The Maytag MGT8885XS is part of the kitchen range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, gas range models like the MGT8885XS are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Cooktop high:
This reflects how quickly the most powerful burner could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3-quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

Cooktop low:
This reflects the gentlest burner's ability to melt and hold chocolate without scorching it. We also set the most powerful burner to its lowest flame to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

Baking:
This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

Comment:
I've owned this range for 2 years. I like the looks and the ample cooking surfaces. The two ovens come in very handy. However, the range top has 5 burners and therefore 5 associated knobs and valves. I've had to replace 3 out of the 5 valves within the first two years. I find that to be unacceptable. My previous stove lasted 20 years and never needed a replacement burner valve. Not so lucky with this one. The replacement valves are expensive too. Depending on where you buy the valves, they can run you upwards of $60.00 each. All in all, I cannot recommend this range.

Comment:
We had the range delivered on 7/6/2012 and first used the ovens several days later, first noticed that the preheat on both ovens took very long nearly 45 minutes to reach 400, later we found that the ovens did not keep temp. We were going on vacation so I needed to schedule service for 8/2/2012 the service tech arrived checked things out said he was going to order parts, came back on 8/12/2012 spent 4 hours replacing parts and trying to find out what the real problem was during that process something was damaged becasue the burners now make a humming noise, we were scheduled for service on 8/21/2012 that they never bothered to show up for. I called Maytag and was yelled and and talked over my saftey concerns were ignored and their safety department is closed! Brandy the customer service manager was rude and would not listen to my concerns for safety and the time away from work and loss of income. Save your time buy another brand!
