How did this get such good Consumer Report review? Bought ours on this advice and it was pure junk. Notice I said WAS, had the microwave for about 4 months and it just quit working all together. Tried to reset several times and nothing. Just seems to have locked up. Don't buy this one!!!!!!

Bought one for the size, it had most room for the price at the time and was replacing a sharp r510cw 1.7 cubic foot. The Oster worked well but was noisy as others stated with beeps (there is no silent mode), they don't stop when you open the door, and it will continue to beep forever to alert you until you finally open the door. Did anyone mention the beeps are loud enough to make your ears bleed? OK that's slightly exaggerated but bottom line, this lasted 5 months with only normal use. How does it go from such a winner on CR to OMG I can't believe I bought this? Pulling the 14 year old sharp out of storage. Replaced one door close sensor in 14 years for $5 and it's still going strong. Maybe I got a bad one, but 5 months?

My mom researched her microwave gift for several weeks before coming to the decision to buy the Oster who had marvelous reviews... that was just over a year ago and the reviews now read a completely different headline. The first problem was the decibel- piercing beeps that alert you when your time is complete... and again... and again... and again... the thing doesn't quit beeping- even after you've opened the door!!!!

Here's the kicker: my husband likes to put a plastic cookie container (from wal-mart) on top of the microwave. Last week, I went to warm a cup of tea and the microwave starts off making a horrible grinding noise. I turned it off and asked everyone if they had noticed anything strange with it. This is when my husband tells me that his cookies were MELTED(!!) after our son made popcorn.
I immediately stopped using it and called the manufacturer. This was their response: You are mis-using your microwave. They take the stance that if you put cookies on your microwave, you are damaging it; if your microwave is plugged into the same outlet as another plug (my refrigerator), you are mis-using it. They also told me, Our product does tend to get hot and has been known to MELT things, which is why you shouldn't put anything on its to
