models like the JVM1740[ ].
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.):
Capacity as listed on the product or packaging.
Watts:
This is the manufacturer's figure of the microwave power output. In general, the more watts an oven offers, the greater its cooking power-and the faster your food will be cooked. That said, differences in claimed wattage of 100 watts or less are unlikely to result in significant differences in performance.
Stainless/SS-look option:
Stainless-steel is stylish, but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.
About This Brand
General Electric is the dominant brand in the entire category of microwave ovens. The brand's ovens can be found in all big-box retailers and independent, national, and regional dealers. The brand strives for innovation. Countertop models range in sizes from 0.8 cubic feet to 2.0 cubic feet. Some models offer convection cooking, and a number provide speed-cook options. GE countertop models range in price from $70 to $350. GE over-the-range (OTR) models measure about 1.5 to 2.0 cubic feet with wattage ratings of 900 to 1,200; GE's OTRs cost $200 to $1,400. GE's latest innovation is the Advantium speed-cook technology, which uses a halogen bulb. The company also sells models with convection cooking.

We've owned this microwave for 18 months and it has stopped heating food. It is no longer under warranty and fixing it will cost nearly as much as a new microwave. I have little confidence in this product and will be searching for a new microwave. Both expensive and a frustrating waste of time.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

very easy to use, great display, simple controls, fine for older folks like me who are not too techie and can't see all that well. my only complaint is the fan has two speeds, but the lower one is still to fast and noisy.

Strength
Works well while under 1-yr warranty
Weakness
Doesnt last long after warranty period ends
Watch out! GE microwave breaks down not long after the warranty period ends. The cost of labor is half again the price of a new microwave; the replacement part, usually the heating element, brings the total cost up and over replacing it with a new unit. Will avoid GE products in the future.
