Comment:
I had a Professional Mixer, Sunbeam Mixmaster, for 25 years and thought is was starting to die. It also had dough hooks and was super at making anything. 2 sizes of stainless steel bowls came with it. The bowl would spin around when the beaters were on. You could easily scrape the sides of the bowl when it was on. To remove the beaters you simply pressed a button and they would pop out. Each speed was labeled with a number and a descriptor: 1 Fold, 2 Knead, 3 Stir, 4 Mix, 5 Combine, 6 Crepes, 7 Blend, 11 Emulsify, 12 Homogenize, 13 Egg Whites, 15 Beat, 16 Attachments. It had a Timer so if you needed to beat your cake mix 2 minutes just set it and it stopped automatically. After reading reviews and checking out Consumer Reports I bought this one. I used it to make a few loaves of bread and oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies. What the other reviews fail to tell you...the bowl locks into place and does not spin around. Locking part is a great idea. Impossible to use a spatula to scrape sides as it beats. No space. The beaters go in an uneven circle as they turn. You have to turn the mixer off. Raise the head. Unlock the bowl and then you can scrape the sides. If you need to do frequent scraping this is an irritating pain. When you need to remove the beater, no matter how clean you scrape it there is still residue present. This is annoying because you have to grab the dirty/sticky beater with your hand, push it up and make a half turn to remove it. The settings only have numbers and no descriptive wording. (Not that that is important.) It is quiet. Now it looks like I have talked myself into sending this one back. If you did not get spoiled with a previous model like mine you will probably like this new mixer.

Comment:
Hi,
I was debating between KitchenAid and Hamilton SMixers. When reading that Hamilton SM was quieter and more powerful, and had more speed levels than KitchenAid I decided to get the Hamilton SM. Since the day I purchased it I have been very happy using it. It's great in everything especially in heavy duty bakings like bread. Great mixing and kneading results.

The only thing is it moves in the highest speed 10 and 12 when mixing the bread dough but it's managable. When beating, mixing cake batter regardless any speed it works great. The quitness is a big plus.

ZL
