Comment:
The first time I used my KitchenAid mixer, flour went all over the kitchen. I had a very hard time putting the flour in while the machine was mixing. I spent many months trying to find the extra plastic spill guard attachment that allows you to pour ingredients in. Many stores did not carry the proper size for my model. I ended up measuring my bowl and took a measuring tape to the stores in order to find one that would fit. I honestly feel that the mixer should be sold with a spill guard. The plastic guard is quite costly for a flimsy piece of plastic and the pour opening is still not large enough to comfortably add ingredients.
Recently I just went to use the mixer and I grabbed the metal batter mixing attachment. Shockingly my hands were all black from holding the beater attachment. I tried to wash it off to no avail. I then went on-line to find out what it was. It seems that you are not to put the attachments in the dishwasher. My attachments have only been hand-washed, yet they are still tarnished. The blackish grey powder is all over my cookie dough and dish cloths. I did not have any of the special cleaning products that others recommend on various on-line forums at home, so I ended up using my old faithful
hand mixer.
The KitcheAid mixer has been more trouble than it is worth. I am disappointed.

Comment:
I make a lot of cookies, and this mixer certainly is a help with that! And yet, there are many improvements that K-Aid could make: 1) Allow the bowl to drop down farther so one could get one's hand and a rubber scraper in to scrape down the bowl without having to take it off entirely (which gets really tiresome!). 2) Allow the beater to get closer to the bottom of the bowl -- all too often, when I think the cookie dough is all mixed, there is unincorporated flour left on the bottom of the bowl. 3) Make the bowl (and therefore the beaters) bigger -- the limitation on the size of a batch of cookie dough (I can't double many of my recipes) is annoying. 4) There is not enough room between the mixer head and the plastic chute for adding scoops of flour; taking off the plastic chute means throwing flour all over the kitchen. All those complaints made, though, this is a good mixer (but be sure you get the highest watt one you can -- the ones sold cheaply are low wattage and will die in the middle of a batch of stiff cookie dough).
