I have been taking baking classes at King Arthur Flour in Norwich, VT where they have both Kitchen Aide and Viking stand mixers. After talking with the bakers there, I decided to purchase the 5 qt Viking. The KA breaks down too much and the Vikng has much better torque. I have had great results with it so far and it's no more noisy than the Kitchen Aide. I would recommend the Viking to anyone.

Comment:
This is my first stand mixer and has worked wonderfully for 3 years. It was chosen due to the higher watt motor (good on bread and heavy dough) and the fact that I know too many people who have taken their Kitchen Aids back because they broke down. It is a bit noisy but it doesn't have to run that long and I would rather have the noise then a broken down mixer.

Comment:
Baking is my serious hobby, particularly rustic breads, and after going through Kitchenaid and Kenwood Professional (I believe the predecessor to this mixer)my I have finally gone to a hand dough hook for making bread. It is great exercise and easy to clean, makes no noise and will not walk off the counter. I also dislike the way the beaters and dough hook do not perfectly conform to the bowl so I have to use a spatula to scrape the bowl and re-feed the clump to the mixer. With the bread, it skips over a significant portion of material on the bottom -- very annoying. If doing a small batch, it is useless. Sorry to say, I bought it with many accessories.
