Like Paul the retiree, I too wonder why CR rates models no longer available. The 1308 is a stainless steel version of the same fan Paul has - identical in all other aspects. I concur with his description of the positive attributes. I'll add that the Air King is made right here in the USA, in West Chester, PA. And the price at [...] is IDENTICAL to a comparable Broan unit they carry, but the Broan is made in China, has only 2 speeds, has a one year warranty and the motor is mounted on the left, making the draw on the right less effective. Air King mounts the motor in the center and has two electronically balanced centrifugal blowers to keep the draw equal on both sides. The choice was a no brainer. Air King is the best kept secret in the home market quality hood market. Too bad it's not featured or displayed anywhere. [...] There are no posters at all about Air King.

Why does CR rate models no longer available? I'm contributing this.Based on CR reviews, I decided to go for an Air King model in this price range. Lowes had it for half the Sears/Amazon price, and well under the CR price on this model. I Pd [$] at Lowes. Had Lowes install it.I liked the fact that the bulb was included. Also, has a night light. Has an expensive look, though it does have knob controls. 3 fan speeds, Two washable filters on each side. Very quiet. Rated at 1.5 scones on low speed. Can be used ducted or ductless, with no conversion kit needed. Appears well constructed /high quality. QC issue: Center bottom panel had screws badly cut. One filter was bent. Installed fine, but e-mailed Air King. Company was very responsive and sent new panel and 2 filters out.
