About - Fisher & Paykel RF201ADUX

The Fisher & Paykel RF201ADUX is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the RF201ADUX are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
It's simple to clean and a beautiful fridge, and the water dispenser is shallow so it's easy to use. However, that's about all I like. A minor inconvenience is that you have to open both doors to access drawers. The major problems are the fridge temperature and ice maker, which didn't make much ice in day. However, it hasn't worked but the first 3 of the 6 months we've had it. The repair people said they wouldn't repair the ice maker again and talk to the maker. Items at the back freeze, and Fisher and Paykel actually said not to put anything in front of the vents. It's not a large fridge, and the all space needs to be utilized, even at the back in front of the vents. Pretty but not practical, and it's been a real headache.

Comment:
This product has very ordinary quality of workmanship and materials. The shelves are wobbly, the drawers not solid.

However, its worst problems are that the ice maker takes forever. In addition, the front-door water feed yields a deep plastic, almost toxic taste to the water.

The same taste infects the taste of the ice cubes. And this unit and its water filter were installed by the finest appliance professionals.
