We have had ours for 2.5, within the first 6 months the mother board went out, now after 2.5 the freezer has gone out. The repair man said the heater motor burnt out, and burned the liner. Although it is technically out of warranty, GE tried to have repaired and now is going to replace at 80% of cost. Bad machine, good consumer service.

Two months beyond the warranty (well planned) it started making a loud reciprocating mechanical noise intermittently and consistently every time you opened the door. The serviceman said it was the opening and closing of valve that lets colder air from the freezer into the refrigerator. The ice maker must work for the government because it makes very little ice before it is exhausted. The GE Profile is made in Korea and does not enjoy the same parts distribution network of a US made Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid. We were sucked by a pretty face. Never again will we buy a GE Profile product.

Everyone seems to have an issue with the ice maker in the door. If there is anything that I really dislike, that is it! Ours has a tendency to spit cubes at you even after you release the lever. As for the rest, we have not had any other issues and I do like the flexiblity to adjust the shelves. I have an extended warranty and having read the other reviews I think it will be renewed. We have not had any repairs done as of yet and the unit was purchased in June of 09
