About - LG LFC20760[SW]

The LG LFC20760[SW] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the LFC20760[SW] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Comment:
This is an OK unit but I believed that I was getting a premium appliance LG disappointed me. I don't like the poor drawers that have cracked in normal adult usage (we have no kids at home) Poor door gaskets that had failed prior to warranty period but are not covered by warranty because it is a so called wearable item. funny that all other refrigerators I have had during my 26 year marriage we never had an issue with gaskets. final issue is the stainless steel surface is difficult to keep clean. I have found that plain rubbing alcohol works best with a cloth not a paper towel. Bottom line I am disappointed with the LG support or lack of it on the gasket that failed within 6 months.

New July 2011 - Replaces 9 Yr. Old Kenmore of similar design. I like that this model has been in production for awhile, and hopefully that means LG has redesigned the bugs out of it that others have complained about. This Energy STAR model has a poor rating for its Energy Efficiency, and CR Failed to elaborate.

The double doors are convenient providing you remember which side of the shelf or which door you stored what you want on. The bottom Drawer Freezer is the most convenient of designs, and not easy to find in a 30 wide refrigerator. I considered the French Doors a plus. The handles are large convenient, and easy to clean. The ice maker works well, but those devices seem to be prone to problems, so I'll have to wait and see.

This design has more usable space than the 9 year old Kenmore of similar design. I will report again in time to say how it has fared over time. CR rated LG reliable for bottom freezer models, and unreliable for Side by Side designs. Based on that and the design I chose the LG despite the bad reviews here.

It is worthy of note that this LG brand 19 Cu. Ft. Bottom Freezer Drawer model with automatic icemaker is the same price in 2011 that I paid 9 years earlier for the 18 Cu. Ft. model that Kenmore sold me. CR says average life fora refrigerator is 14 years. Time will tell.

Comment:
We use the Refrigerator for a small family. In the year and a half we have owned it w've had the following problems.
1) Door seals are not very well designed and you must shut both doors simultaniously to prevent ripping seals in top center. If not they ripp easily and are only covered for a year.
2) Ice maker would not stop....was replaced within weeks of new unit, but been fine ever since.

Based on the above and agreeing with other review there are very few 30 wide Refrigerators out there with french doors. Other than listed above this has worked fine.

Strength
sleek, fits unconventional spaces
Weakness
defective compressor,high pitched noise,wasteful space
This LG refrigerator was purchased less than 2 weeks ago. It makes a high pitch noise about once an hour or when making ice. The noise is deafeningly loud and wakes everyone up at night, even though it lasts only 3-5 seconds. The sad part is that the warranty is covered by LG for the 1st year, however the service company PC Richards partners with (Aid Audio) doesn't wish to publicly acknowledge this model has a faulty compressor. They admit this model has serious defects and are willing to bring a service tech back to our home to install working parts. The manager from the service company that I corresponded with, Todd, confessed THIS MODEL has serious flaws but was unwilling to have that stated in writing. The Aid Audio service tech told me it was a rusty motor and a freezer sensor that had to be changed, but then the manager Todd phoned me and said it was actually the compressor. He was not willing to have this documented so I could exchange it for another fridge of the same model. Todd said I should avoid this model all together but said he could arrange this situation with PC Richard & Son via a phone call rather than a written report. I asked him 3 times to put it in writing, but he refused. This was a clear & obvious red flag. Next step is to file a complaint with the BBB.UPDATE:PC Richard & Son has honored an exchange. They say their service vendor (Aid Audio) was passing the buck and blaming the fridge model instead of attempting to diagnose the issue. Nonetheless, the fridge is still here in my kitchen whistling in that high pitched tone as loud as ever. I've already agreed to have another model shipped.
