The Maytag MBF1958XE[W] is part of the refrigerator
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator
models like the MBF1958XE[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.
About This Brand
One of the Whirlpool brands, Maytag is a major player in the bottom-freezer section of the market. The company was one of the first to introduce a French-door model with an external ice-and-water dispenser and a cabinet-depth model with an external dispenser.
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.) Claimed capacity is the manufacturer's estimate of the volume, in cubic feet, of interior space.
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.)
Cabinet-depth model Cabinet-depth models usually measure 27 to 28 inches deep, not quite flush with the cabinets, but at least three inches shallower than many standard 36-inch-wide models. You can get models with stainless exteriors or panel kits.
French-door style French door models are bottom-freezer refrigerators whose upper compartments have two narrow doors that open similarly to the doors of a side-by-side refrigerator. These narrower doors use less space in front of the refrigerator when opened, and allow access to either or both sides of the full-width fresh-food compartment. Typically more expensive, French-door models are usually 36 inches wide, though some newer models are 33 inches wide.
Water dispenser It is normally located in the fresh food compartment.
Stainless/SS-look option Stainless steel is stylish but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.
It seemed like a decent refrigerator, but started flooding after less than 2 years of ownership.
We'd walk in and find water on the floor all around the refrigerator.
This is the first refrigerator we've owned that needed repairs.
2 years is WAY too early for a refrigerator to start requiring expensive maintenance.
It seems to be a defect in the refrigerator, because I read that others are having the same problem.
I don't think Maytag knows how to build a refrigerator.

Don't buy from Gerhard's Appliances
Do not buy from Gerhard's Appliances. Bought this appliance from Gerhard's Appliances in April. As part of purchase, ordered In Home delivery ($99.99). After 2 delays from the promised delivery date, the refrigerator arrived but the driver said he had no paperwork to bring it into the house. A call to Gerhard's (Zack), revealed that the paperwork had not been processed so delivery would have to be rescheduled. The company called the next day and said that since I lived in a remote location, in home delivery would cost several hundred dollars more but if I wanted, I could help the truck driver move the unit into my house and Gerhard's would refund the In Home fee. It is now 2 Aug and the refund has not been posted, after several calls and assurances (10 Jul) that my refund would be processed that day.

Holds Temperature Well
Space For Tall Items
This unit uses half the electricity that our old fridge used. Love the bottom freezer, would never go back to top freezer. Have owned for nearly a year and am very satisfied with my Maytag.
