About - Maytag MFF2258VE[W]

The Maytag MFF2258VE[W] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the MFF2258VE[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.
About This Brand

One of the Whirlpool brands, Maytag is a major player in the bottom-freezer section of the market. The company was one of the first to introduce a French-door model with an external ice-and-water dispenser and a cabinet-depth model with an external dispenser.

Comment:
This refrigerator came with the house when we bought it. So, I don't know how much the previous owner paid. I can say it is not as good as my GE Profile that I left in my rental property. I don't particularly like the French door setup with the freezer being kind of a pain. This is a noisy fridge and I've already had to have service on it twice in 3 years so it's not that reliable as far as I'm concerned. The shelves are a plus but if you put things on the top shelf in the back, they tend to freeze. So be careful what you put there. The water dispenser is ok. The filter is hard to remove and they are on the pricey side. All in all, I would not recommend this refrigerator to anyone.

Comment:
This was bought as a gift for us in November but delivered in February of 2013. We noticed that the ice maker was extremely noise and the ice would spill over the place.
The water filter needed to be replace within 2 months and to get one has been a hassle and an more than expense that we care for.
Finally, the freezer stopped working on a Tuesday and customer service could not come out for a week; Finally they told us it was the compressor, but tech did not have the part. We are still waiting for it to arrive and then they can come. I am upset because Maytag did not EVEN offer any type of compensation. Is not easy getting food for a baby on a daily or eating out when your family is on a budget because you cannot shop for food not to mentioned all the food that was spoil. I understand parts break but customer service should step up its game!

Comment:
We bought this refrigerator in July of 2011. One factor that influenced us was the Maytag brand and reputation. Bad move. We REGRET it.

This model has a drain tube that freezes and causes defrost water to pool on the bottom of the freezer drawer. This freezes, and eventually there is so much that it is pushed out onto the floor and melts. The repair tech had to dismantle the entire freezer compartment to reach this tube and defrost it. The repair lasted only a few months before it occurred again. The tech said it's a common problem he sees all the time. Maytag will not fix this defect.

We either have to have a service call every three months or empty out the freezer drawer of food and use a putty knife to get the excess ice out.

We didn't buy a refrigerator so we could either shell out $100+ every three months, or go to the trouble of emptying out the freezer compartment and get down there and scrape the ice out! We're stuck with this thing now!

I want to remodel my kitchen and put new flooring in. With this issue, I don't dare!

Do not purchase this type of refrigerator from Maytag!
