About - Samsung RF197AC[WP]

The Samsung RF197AC[WP] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator models like the RF197AC[WP] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

This is the fridge to avoid with any cost, unless you want to get it replaced fast. I have the fridge for less than 2 years, the first year was OK, but then suddenly started to leak water into the veggie drawers. Do a search on the web, lot of people with this problem, lot of people complained to Samsung and no resolution. I chatted with Samsung yesterday and they are NOT aware of any problems with this fridge. Really? How come nobody sues them? They asked me to fill a service request and probably pay money to something that can not be fixed. How come consumer reports don't do anything about this problem, protecting the customers from this fraud company?

This was purchased to replace a (still working)20+ year old GE refrigerator. Within 3 months BOTH freezer doors cracked at the stress points which are plastic.
Replaced once by Samsung and again soon after the same stress fractures occurred. After much hassle with Samsung customer service my door was replaced again. Yes, within another month the same issue. AND the bottom, plastic portion of the refrigerator doors are also now cracking and breaking.
I would never recommend another Samsung item for their poor design and more importantly the fact that Samsung does not stand behind their product.

After 2 1/2 years the refrigerator started leaking water like everyone else has experienced. The cooling coils were froze solid. A call to Samsung was no help and the are fully aware of this issue. Three hundred dollars latter for repair and a month passing same thing happened. Let it thaw and turned temperature up two degrees. Crossing fingers at this point. What a mess, never going to buy any other Samsung product.
