The Samsung RF4287HA[RS] is part of the refrigerator
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, bottom freezer refrigerator
models like the RF4287HA[RS] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two models with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.
About This Brand
Samsung's new bottom-freezer French-door refrigerators will come with new easy-open door systems, foldaway shelves, LED lighting, and dual evaporators. It's expected to be debuting the largest French-door model in the U.S. market with its 29-cubic-foot refrigerator.
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.) Claimed capacity is the manufacturer's estimate of the volume, in cubic feet, of interior space.
Claimed capacity (cu. ft.)
Cabinet-depth model Cabinet-depth models usually measure 27 to 28 inches deep, not quite flush with the cabinets, but at least three inches shallower than many standard 36-inch-wide models. You can get models with stainless exteriors or panel kits.
French-door style French door models are bottom-freezer refrigerators whose upper compartments have two narrow doors that open similarly to the doors of a side-by-side refrigerator. These narrower doors use less space in front of the refrigerator when opened, and allow access to either or both sides of the full-width fresh-food compartment. Typically more expensive, French-door models are usually 36 inches wide, though some newer models are 33 inches wide.
Water dispenser It is normally located in the fresh food compartment.
Stainless/SS-look option Stainless steel is stylish but it shows fingerprints. Another option: a vinyl-covered metal finish that gives you a stainless-steel look but resists smudging.
I always introduce everyone to my fridge. I call it my ET because it is so brilliantly lit on the inside. It's absolutely gorgeous, but the ice maker makes me nuts which is why I needed a new refrigerator.

Two years great use
Holds Temperature Well
Space For Tall Items
Faint Open-door Warning
Perfect size for family of 2 with lots of visiting grandkids and family gatherings. NO problems after 2+ years. We love how the versatile layout, and the ability to do a power freeze when adding something new to the freezer, the fabulous interior lighting that shines throughout and helps your find even items tucked way in back. The large capacity freezer with compartments is fabulous.
Because we are on a well, we use the ice maker and water dispenser constantly. Changing the filter is easy, and affordable if you buy the filters in bulk. It also helps if you have access to the water intake valve in back to shut off water during filter changes. The water dispenser is tall and deep enough to set a plastic pitcher down for filling.
We keep lots of cheese, beverage bottles and snacks in the pull out drawer. We were initially disappointed that the drawer did not pull out further than it does, but simply have gotten used to that limitation. Another issue is that the open-door warning is much too faint for our old ears, and cannot be heard if you are not very close. We haven't found a way to adjust the volume.
Our biggest problem was during installation. When we tried to slide it into the space our remodelers had made for it, we found the sides bulged out from the vertical by at least a quarter of an inch. We had to spend way too much money to make adjustments in our cabinetry to accommodate that bulge.
Overall, we are thrilled with how this great big appliance fits into our efficient little kitchen.

Bad Ice Maker
Freezes In Fridge
Organizer Won't Stay
We bought our Samsung fridge in November 2013. Based on Consumer Reports ratings, it was on sale and we used our military discount,we thought it was a good deal. We considered buying another leading model, but 2 factors swayed us to this model. 1. The other model you had to open both French doors to gain access to the bottom drawer (more cold air escaped) 2. We liked the added 4th drawer for snack storage and convenience.

I have been disappointed with our Samsung purchase. First, it does not make enough ice for our family of four. Unfortunately, I have to ration so we have enough ice throughout the day. Impossible to save extra ice since we don't have enough for our daily use. Second, the metal organizer in the snack drawer doesn't lock in place. Each time we opened and closed the drawer the organizer shifted. I solved this by tying string on the sides to hold it in place. For the price we paid, I would think I wouldn't have to rig something. Third, the products in the back of the fridge sometimes freeze. We have it at the suggested temperature, so I think I need to see about adjusting it a degree or 2 to see if this fixes this issue. Fourth, this is our first stainless steel appliance purchase (so it might apply to other products, as well), but the fingerprints really show. Our keep reminding our 2 kids, 9 and 6, to only touch the handles. I get tired of cleaning the prints off.

We did have to remove a shelf to make room for tall storage items. Not a big deal.
