About - Kenmore Cold Spot 5110[2]

The Kenmore Cold Spot 5110[2] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, side by side refrigerator models like the Cold Spot 5110[2] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Have had this fridge for over 3 years now and only had a problem once due to not turning the ice maker off and dumping out the ice caddy when my power was out for 3 days. Was fortunate to have it repaired free of cost even though it was a month after warrenty. Filter is easy to replace and for the most part its very easy to clean. Works like a charm, holds a ton of food and keeps it nice and cold. Only thing that is difficult to do is clean the coils underneith from fur, dust and dirt. vaccume extender works with that.

Comment:
I owned this product just over 90 days and the cylenoid which starts the compressor went out. All of the food inside spoiled while I was away for a few days. This happened over the Christmas and New Years Holiday. When I called [@] they first told me it would take a week to get a repairman to service the warranty. After pleading my need for cold food they said they would come out in 3 days. I had to wait at home away from work for a 4 hour window for them to come. The repairman said he would need to order a cylenoid which would take 10 days. I asked them to take one off of an in store model and the [@] Customer Service hung up on me. So now I don't have a refridgerator for 20 days plus have to take off 4 hours from work to sit around and wait for a [@] Repairman.

Comment:
At exactly 13 months our Sears Kenmore refrigerator decided to flood our kitchen and the temperature controls stopped working properly. We called Sears customer service and they said the warrenty was 12 nonths. We went to the Sears store and could not find the manager but found the saleswoman. She was very unpleasant and said it was not her problem. We wrote, e-mailed, and called Whirlpool, the manufacturer of the refrigerator. After waiting for several months, someone called and said the problems were with Sears and not Whirlpool.
