Samsung's new bottom-freezer French-door refrigerators will come with new easy-open door systems, foldaway shelves, LED lighting, and dual evaporators. It's expected to be debuting the largest French-door model in the U.S. market with its 29-cubic-foot refrigerator.

I bought this refrigerator as a result of CR's recommendation; however, I should have looked at the user feedback. The main problem is that it makes LOUD popping noises day and night. This should have earned it a black-ball rating from CR. The compressor is quiet, but the popping noises are intolerable. On setup, the water dispenser dripped, and there is no drain to collect the drips. The instruction manual is terrible, and I had to rewrite my manual to understand what it was trying to explain. Part of this might be that the controls themselves are not intuitive, and also, there is no readout of the actual temperatures. Terrible waste of money, and from user reviews in other places, there are no fixes for the popping noise problem.

Comment:
We have owned this fridge for only 17 months, purchased it based on being highly recommened by CR and loved it for the first 13 months...didn't love the ice maker though but was living with it. It's true as other reviews have stated, ice comes out like a torpedo and is all over the place if you aren't prepared for it and often drops out onto floor just at random times. My issue is reliability, after only 17 months we have to purchase a new fridge as ours is out of warranty and not working properly and Samsung is NO help. There is currently a Class Action Lawsuit against Samsung for knowingly selling fridges they knew were defective and would rarely last more than 3 years. First it started with a the fan sounding like it was hitting something. Spoke with appliance repairman and he told me probably was hitting ice and needed to defrost...a frostfree fridge, was he kidding??..uh, no. He also told me Samsung were expensive to repair and repairs never worked for long because they had a history of issues. So, did the defrost and it was fine for a couple of weeks and same thing and doesn't cool properly. This is pretty much standard for Samsung fridges which is why there is a Class Action Lawsuit against them. We can not wait on the suit to be settled and are going to purchase a new fridge and will no longer consider CR as a source of good information for future purchases, they should have known better. We can not risk losing a fridge freezer full of food or eating spoiled food and getting sick. Google Samsung fridge class action lawsuit....SHAME ON SAMSUNG.

The LED lighting is insufficient, the adjustable shelves can only be moved to one spot and the water/ice dispenser had no drip tray.
I know this unit is touted as being above energy efficiency standards but you need enough lighting to see the food in your refridgerator. The permanently fixed shelves in the refridgerator section and the door seem oddly placed and can only be moved to one other spot. Since there is no drip tray, when there is a spill from the ice/water dispenser it runs immediately on to the floor. I wish I had done more research before buying this refridgerator, I know that you can't trust the recommendations of a sales man or consumer reports. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it has a long use life since I am stuck with it and don't have money to buy another.
