About - Kenmore 7093[2]

The Kenmore 7093[2] is part of the refrigerator test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, top freezer refrigerator models like the 7093[2] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Temperature performance:
This combines results of tests measuring the accuracy of initial temperature settings along with how well a model 1) kept optimum temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer at the same time; 2) kept temperatures even throughout each compartment; 3) kept temperatures constant despite changes in room temperatures; and 4) maintained set temperatures even with very high room temperatures.

Energy efficiency:
This reflects electricity consumption (based on our tests) per cubic foot of measured usable storage space. For example, two refrigerators with the same energy cost per year may have different energy efficiencies -- the unit with more storage space being more efficient.

Noise:
Noise level was measured when the compressor started up and during steady running. Subjective judgments by a panel of listeners supplemented our noise-meter readings.

Good price
Holds Temperature Well
Space For Tall Items
Cons
Doors close slugglishly
Flimsy drawers
Noisy
Runs Too Often
Best Uses
For average-sized family
Comment:
Although it looks good and holds a good amount of items, it seems to run too much - at least it keeps food the proper temperature. Yet it surprisingly is energy-efficient. I wish it were quieter - it's a bit on the noisy side (compressor.) Glass shelves are nice; the plastic on the drawers feels like it will break (but hasn't after 9 mos.) I have it in black and it looks great. I bought this more for the price - not the features.

Comment:
We tried two times with this model because it fits the space in our kitchen.
Had to remodel our kitchen to fit a larger model to get a better quality refrigerator.
Many design faults:
1-The freezer ices up if you do not keep open space on all sides of your food.
You loose 5 inches of storage space in the back of an already small freezer.
2-The door does not always close.
If you leave the butter dish cover open while using your butter the door cannot close
because it bumps into the temperature controls and holds the door seals open ½ inch.
The bottom hinge on our second attempt was missing a part and was grinding itself.
We had a pile of black dust under it (probably metal filings).
3-The spill free shelves look nice but the white boarder trim removes useable space.
You cannot place any item closer than 3 inches to the back wall and 1 & 1/4 inches away from the sidewalls. The front lip is 2 & ¼ inches deep so you loose that space too. All of this adds up to making an already small refrigerator into a really small one.
