Comment:
Two adults used this machine daily, but just for toasting, baking potatoes, things like that...no casseroles or heavy use.
A little over a year later (coincidentally, the expiration of the warranty period,) the bloody thing died.
It's a non-functioning controller, which likely has a repair cost as much as replacement of the whole oven.
Our next purchase is for a junky, cheap toaster oven.
At least we won't feel ripped-off after the thing dies right after the too-brief warranty period.
Most expensive and junkiest toaster oven we ever bought.
Never again.
Paid over $160 at Williams-Sonoma when it was on sale; shame on them for selling such a poor product.

Comment:
The day after I submitted the previous post I was able to again contact Breville Customer service and on this occasion the company satisfactorily rectified my problem with the oven. As one of the more costly toaster ovens on the market I had hoped for a more resilient product. However, as it is with any family of products I realize I may have received a 'lemon' the first time. The main thing is when the oven was functioning it was fine and in the end the company stood by their product and corrected the situation. After my initial post I felt strongly that it's only right to give Breville the credit it deserves for their handling of my issue and to communicate that fact to the Consumer Reports community.

Comment:
Product worked fine for a year or two, recently the bottom heating elements have failed. The replacement part is discontinued. For the most expensive toaster oven on the market it should be far more reliable and at the very least have replacement parts for when it breaks down. For a short lived appliance like this you're better off buying an oven for half or one-quarter the price. You'll get twice the usage or more for a lot less money.
