About - Maytag Centennial MEDC500V[W]

The Centennial MEDC500V[W] is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the Centennial MEDC500V[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on four types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of all-cotton items; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 5 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Love the simplicity of the dryer. Dries well. No wrinkles. Large capacity. However, the dryer has made a rhythmic thumping noise since I bought it. I was told it was a "seam problem" and the repairman filed the seam on the drum so it would "roll over the rollers more smoothly" It did not change anything. Still thumps and shakes rhythmically when drying. I was told it would get better after more loads. It did not. Told it would be louder when it was cold. I live in Florida! I am trying to upgrade to the 700 series of this dryer because it has "4 rollers instead of 2 rollers" and will not make that noise according to my repair guy... rest of the story to follow

I've had this dryer for over a year and I have no complaints with it. Having bought a Cabrio washer a year before and finding out the hard way that it was like throwing $1000 out the window, I was more than happy to buy this dryer [on sale] at a really good price. It does what it says...I'd recommend it.
