About - Samsung DV50F9A8EVP

The Samsung DV50F9A8EVP is part of the clothes dryer test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, electric dryer models like the DV50F9A8EVP are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Drying performance:
This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb. load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.

Capacity:
Among the models we tested, drum volume varied from about 6 to 8.0 cu. ft.

Convenience:
For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.

Big and Quiet - but Major Design Flaw
7/14/2014
Pros
Large Capacity
Quiet
Works Quickly
Cons
High Heat Hurts Fabrics
Little Temp Control
Not efficient
Best Uses
Comment:
This is a lovely big machine which operates quietly, and has loads of nice options. However, temperature selection is not one of them. Most clothing manufacturers recommend drying at LOW heat to better preserve fabrics and extend the life of the garment. However, that is not possible with this machine. For almost all load types, the temperature has been programmed to the High or Medium level, with no ability to choose Medium Low, Low, or Extra Low settings. One must choose the Timed Dry setting to get the Low temperature, just like dryers in the 1970s. The 'Delicates' selection is programmed at Extra Low - all other types of loads: towels, permanent press, jeans, etc, are limited to High or Medium. That is very disappointing.

Might as well be made from tinfoil

Pros
Easy To Use
Large Capacity
Quiet
Cons
Flimsy Materials
Poor Design
Best Uses
Comment:
This dryer has relatively simple to operate and has useful features. However, it might as well be made out of tinfoil - the SLIGHTEST weight or pressure on the top results in dramatic dents that can not be removed. Poor design, built with flimsy materials. Buyer beware.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
This dryer is used to clean the same quantity and diversity of clothing, towels, sheets, etc as our 15 year old Maytag was used for.
The added steam cycle and quieter operation was a huge plus.
Twelve days after purchase the drum warped and had to be replaced. Three months after that we are having the same issue. For the amount of money spent, I would have expected a bit more durability.
After the first replacement of the drum we were careful not to overload it yet here we are.
The retailer I purchased it from has been very helpfull in getting the issues addressed and has even delivered a loaner dryer until mine gets fixed.
Thats a good thing since it will take almost a month to get it looked at due to what the retailer claims is a stringent service provider qualification requirement from Samsung.

I am hoping this is just a lemon and not a true representation of the product.
