I have owned this machine for 6 yrs and there is nothing I've thought about doing that it couldn't accomodate. Quilts, home dec, christening gowns, bags, clothing etc. The thing I love the most (and hated the most on my 80's era Singer) is the bobbin tension. Rarely a problem and when there is it's ususally something I did. The store I bought it from's personel is always helpful and I keep finding new thing I can do with it.

I bought this sewing machine to replace my 1970s sewing machine. I always wanted a Bernina and was starting to quilt more so I picked this model because it has the BSR, what a difference! I actually had purchased another brand but it was equivalent to my 1970s machine so I gave it to my teenage niece and splurged on the Bernina, SO GLAD I did. <br /><br />For machine quilting, the BSR is priceless. I use it without the foot pedal and it works so well.<br /><br />In addition I sew clothing and home decor items. I sell some of my items so I needed a reliable machine. For sewing on different types of clothing fabric, it works just as well. I love the automatic tension setting, I have never had any problems with tension and have never set it manually.<br /><br />I like the separate motor for the bobbin winding and it's very fast. <br /><br />I've owned the machine for 2-1/2 years and I use it about 3 times a week or more and have never had any problems with it and it has not been serviced but I do de-lint it constantly and oil the bobbin. I need to learn more about the features I haven't used. But I did attend the orientation course at the Bernina store which I recommend. Then you can also download a user guide with tons of different ways to use the stitches, much more than the guide included with the machine.

I am a wife, mother, grandmother. I sew for my self and family. I have owned Kenmore's, Singer's, Baby Lock's, and will never buy anything but a Bernina again. I have a 440 QE and a 830LE. I love the fact that you can get classes for life. These machines will last forever. If I Had only bought one of these when I was buying my first machine I would have saved money. If you have any of the problems I read above you need to get it serviced.
