When my twenty year old Sunbeam finally conked out, I needed a new one to last the next twenty years. Based upon CR ratings, I went off to [@] and bought this (at the time) $100+ iron. From day one, there was a very minor drip to the iron, but it was not worth the hassle of returning or filing the warranty return. But then after about six months, the drip quite suddenly turned into a serious leak - I had water all over the place coming out of the power cord. It cannot be safe. This iron did not last one year, even though it is probably out of warranty, I am shipping it back to Rowenta telling them it needs to be replaced!

I hate this iron. I bought this iron based on CR review and what a mistake. I got to learn to look at consumers reviews too before making a decision. The problem with this iron is that it leaks down the sides. I spend more time ironing dry the wet spots than I do ironing.

Comment:
This is the second Rowenta I've had. The first one I loved, until the soleplate started turning black with a film, so I took it back. I thought maybe it was our water, but our water is treated. I bought another one and I followed the manufacturer's directions and STILL had problems with the soleplate. Then I started using distilled water (the directions say to use tap water). I clean the soleplate with another recommended product, and immediately it turns black with a residue build-up. After just ONE garment. I do not understand how CR can give this a high rating. I will NEVER buy another Rowenta.
