About This Brand

Hoover introduced its first vacuum in 1907 and has established itself as one of the most recognizable brands in America. More recently, Hoover was bought from Whirlpool by TTI Floor Care, the owners of Dirt Devil. Hoover sells a wide variety of uprights at mass-market retailers, with models ranging from as little as $50 to $300. It also makes hand and stick vacuums, canister models (about $80 to $300), deep cleaners, central vacuums, bare-floor cleaners, and an outdoor sweeper, though the company is best known for its uprights.

Comment:
We purchased the Hoover Platinum S3865 for removal of pet hair which it does very well...when it's working. We have replaced hose/control handle at least four times in the past two years. It has a 5 year warranty which Hoover has honoured but I'm just fed up with the thing.

Every time my wife uses this she brings the container to show me how much it has picked up before she empty's it. So far it has worked fine the only issue is the Air Director Umbrella has developed cracks where it fastens inside the vacuum. Hoover replaced it at no charge under the 72 month warranty. It was purchased in February 2011.

I've used this vacuum maybe five times. The last time I used it, it cut off in the middle of the job. The owner's manual says this can be because of overheating, so I followed the recommendation to leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes. When I tried again, the lights on the cleaner body would come on, but the On/Off switch on the handle would not turn on the vacuum. I would press the switch and it would make noises like it was trying to start, but wouldn't completely start. Then, a flash and a pop came from the handle right where the hose meets the handle. After that, the vacuum would not start at all. Now I have to take it in to the service center, which I'm dreading because many of the other poor reviews I'm seeing state it takes weeks or months for Hoover to send replacement parts for warranty service. The bottom line is, the vacuum cleaner works well when it works, but you're rolling the dice that you're going to get a dud.
