One thing is for sure: canister vacuums do not work well on carpet; and uprights do not work well on hardwood floors. Since our house has both, we have a vacuum for each type of floor. This Miele is fantastic on hardwood floors. Since it's lightweight, I also carry it into the garage so I can vacuum the car seats and floors. The only complaint I have is that the power cord is pretty short; which is typical of European vacuum cleaners.

I did alot of research and this vacumn had across the board the best ratings and reviews. It has a 7yr warranty on the motor. When I asked a retailer about where to go to get fixed if needed he said that Miele has great customer service and stands behind their products. Also read that they were engineered to last a long time.

I read the reviews from users which were very useful. This machine is absolutely excellent. I have 6 cats at home and a dog and only hardwood floors all over the house. It picks up cat litter to perfection. It is an extremely quiet machine. The cats and dog walk around it while I vacuum. Extremely powerful. Need to buy the hardwood attachment ($69.00). Cleans rugs perfectly. Cleans the inside of my vehicle perfectly. had it for 6 months - use it at least twice a day. I finally have the machine I've been looking for a long time.
