I have a small house and vacuum once a week. I have no carpets but several wool area rugs. I've owned this vacuum for 10 months. After about 8 weeks it failed to turn on. I returned it to Sears and they repaired it without any fuss. The repair took about two weeks. I think the problem was a failed circuit board in the wand.

Currently the sears hepa bags won't seal and dust and dirt leaks and collects on the flat filter at the back of the bag compartment. The power cord constantly retacts while vacuuming so I use a clothes pin to keep it extended. The wand collaspes while vacuuming. This is extremely annoying as I don't have a clothes pin large enough to keep the wand extended. The bare floor head is very large making it impossible to vacuum tight areas. The carpet head is even larger and it's impossible to vacuum under the front of the couch at all. The one thing this vacuum is good at is sucking all desire I have to vacuum right out of my body. Five minutes with this baby and I won't vacuum again for at least three weeks.

We needed a good canister vacuum to get under beds and help with allergies. I should have read these reviews first! Instead, I went and trusted the No. 1 rating handed to this vacuum by Consumer Reports. In a nutshell: The unit we purchased never worked. While putting it together out of the box, the swivel end of the hose that plugs into the canister came apart, exposing greasy electric contacts. It would not go back together. Additionally, I was amazed at the flimsy plastic doors on the attachment compartments. For a [$] machine, I expected much, much more. So we took it back for a full refund. I'm still searching for a good canister vacuum ...

Based on Consumer reports reviews, I ordered this vacuum off the internet. It is actually the 3rd Kenmore Cannister Vac I have owened.

There is a ball on the head of the vacuum that causes the vacuum head to move from one side to the other when you are pushing it making it a lot of work to vacuum. As others mentioned the height adjustment kept collapsing on us. I was alredy planning to return it when I tried to run it over my floors before company came. It would not pick up a sequin off my tile floor nor would it pick small pieces of paper/lint off my carpet. I returned it and got a full refund.
