About This Brand
Bissell positions its upright vacuums to meet specific consumer preferences and needs. Healthy Home models target consumers who want to “breathe easy” by reducing allergens; the Pet Hair Eraser is meant to appeal to dog and cat owners. Bissell products are available at a wide variety of discount stores and mass merchants, including Wal-Mart, Target, and Kmart. Upright models range in price from $40 to $270. Bissell also makes hand and stick vacuums, canisters, compact hand extractors, upright deep cleaners, and bare-floor cleaners, and makes carpet-care products under the Woolite brand.
Bissell focuses less on canisters and has just two models, priced at $50 and $230. Bissell canisters are sold through the same retail stores as their other vacuum products.

Having successfully used Sharks and grown accustomed to their effectiveness and convenience, it came time to replace my second one (nothing lasts forever). Instead of buying another, I opted for the Bissell Perfect Sweep Turbo as it had more features than the base price Shark and was only a few dollars more. After the recommended charge time, it swept beautifully for less than a minute - then stopped dead as if it were jammed. Not so; it simply failed. Assuming the toe switch was turned off (it wasn't), I left it to sit where it quit and got ready for work. Upon returning to the room, I smelled a distinct electrical burning odor and soon found the sweeper was indeed switched on, not running and the super hot battery melting the base of the unit. Had I gone off to work not noticing this, the end result could have been unthinkable. Of course it's being returned and replaced by the infinitely more reliable Shark which, by the way, has a much more comfortable to use handle.

Comment:
We had our original Bissell Perfect Sweep for 4 years and it was a great vacuum. Did daily, frequent kid clean ups and we had zero complaints. The battery after 4 years simply failed to hold a charge any longer which considering the life we got out of the vacuum we understood took no issue with.
We then proceeded to purchase a new replacement Bissell Perfect Sweep in Oct, 2010. During the first use (after a full initial charge) the motor grew increasing louder with use and one of the wheels was binding and not turning. We figured it was just a fluke and returned it to the store. We decided to give it another chance and purchased another Pefect Sweep. The replacement worked for 3 months (no complaints) and then during a charge we smelled a burning electrical smell - which was the vacuum (glad we were home at the time)! It had gotten very, very warm and essentially smelled like the motor or some other electrical motor had cooked. I waited a while and then decided to turn it on and try it, (after having been on the charger for around 8 hours - and then letting it cool following its meltdown) it had no charge and failed to work.
The initial vacuum of 4 years, represented an excellent value, did a great job and fulfilled its intended purpose. The 2 replacements leave me wondering where the quality control has gone at Bissell?
For what we paid - not worth shipping it back for warranty. I would not recommend this vacuum or brand based on our 2 recent experiences.

Comment:
Charge lasts a long time, charges in no time, picks up everything. I've had it for years, still works great. Definitely under scored.
