About - Riccar Supralite RSL3
---
This upright vacuum cleaner weighs only 9 pounds -- an important feature in an upright because, unlike a canister, the whole machine must be pushed back and forth over the carpeting or floor. The light weight should also make this model easier than other uprights when cleaning stairs. It uses bags, but does not have a full-bag indicator, so you have to check periodically to see if it's time for a replacement. It has a HEPA filtration system, the highest level of filtration in vacuum cleaners, and potentially helpful for people with allergies. The Riccar Supralite RSL3 has an easy on/off switch and a 30-foot non-retractable cord. It does not feature manual pile adjustment for different carpet heights or a brush on/off switch to stop the rotator brush when cleaning bare floors. This model also lacks the option to reduce suction power when vacuuming delicate curtains and upholstery. This model is similar to the Simplicity Freedom F3500.

Comment:
We bought this model based upon Consumer Reports ratings and, once again, are disappointed. For three years now, each time before use, we must sit with a razor blade and cut the hairs off of the beater bar or the bar will bind and break the belt, and the belt is not easy, or inexpensive to change. Do NOT buy this machine if there are long hairs in your house, or if you do not have the strong hands necessary to change the belt once a month. Getting the belt back on correctly is hit or miss and the only sure fire way to make sure it works is to take it back in to the dealer. If the belt is just a little bit out of line it will break within moments of putting it on. At $6 per belt, it isn't worth the trouble. To its credit, the machine does have great suction and will pick up most anything; the problem is, so many things jam in it, causing noise and belt smoke or breakage if you don't get the off switch thrown in a hurry. At least the machine has, so far, shut itself off when it feels stressed. It will restart after it has meditated for several hours and you have cleaned it.I just broke my last belt immediately after replacing the last one that broke because of a few long hairs. That's it; I am done with this thing. I'm going to [@] to buy a Dust Devil that works.

Bought this vacuum cleaner based upon positive reviews on Consumer Reports and other websites.

Less than two years later and this vacuum is busted. The internal plastic fan is busted in three pieces. We have used this in our home with very normal use, no heavy dirt only daily regular vacumming.

We previously had an Oreck that lasted 10 years. I should have known better and just stuck with the Oreck.

Comment:
I suffered from extreme back pain using heavier vacuums. The Riccar is a joy to use and I vacuum more often due to no back pain. Easy 2 speed switch near handle..no fuss. I also use the Riccar small canister to do baseboards and furniture...light weight so no strain on back.
