About - Bosch Vision 500 Series WFVC5440UC

The Bosch Vision 500 Series WFVC5440UC is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Vision 500 Series WFVC5440UC are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Thinking Bosch makes great power tools, we bought this washer. I had a Neptune front loader for 8 years and it worked well - I guess the big difference is that it spun at 800 RPM. This Bosch spins at 1100 and shakes the entire back of the house- so much so that I couldn't believe my old tenants did not complain. Completely unreliable - electronics were funky - would jump around on the timer minutes (and no, this was not because it was 'sensing the load'... it was because the computer needed to be replaced. Terrible shaking - computer was flaky - didn't always spin the clothes.
The repair man just came and took it away - AND - gave me a check from Bosch coving the price I paid for it and the matching dryer - I win - but oh the aggravation I've put up with!!!!

Comment:
I have a Bosch range and dishwasher, both of which I adore. Based on that experience I bought this washer. Although it cleans well, on several occasions the spin cycle left the clothes SOPPING wet. I often have only a small number of items to wash and and the light/small cycle for only a few items is one of the reasons I chose the Bosch. Imagine my surprise when the documentation states that the spin cycle will not spin at the maximum speed if there are only a few items because of automatic balancing. The only way to get a proper spin is to throw in 2-3 bath towels that are perfectly dry and clean to get enough bulk for the spin cycle to work properly. VERY ANNOYING. In addition, having separate permanent press and cotton cycle choices turns out not to make a lot of sense. How often do you do a load that is only one or the other? I now use only the cotton cycle because the permanent press option again leaves the clothes too wet.

Comment:
I bought my first bosch washer in 2009 and within a year, had it serviced so many times and had it completely replaced with parts that surprisingly bosch replaced it with this new vision 500 series.
At first, I was upset with the washer quality for the price but extremely happy that they took care of the problem by giving me a new washer....or so I thought.
I am now 1 year and 2 months into owning the new machine and I've had to have the pump replaced because it was leaking (no cost to me...fell within warranty period). Now I am having all the lights on the machine go out and it will not do anything. It does fix itself somehow after about 24 hours of being off. I am now 2 months out of warranty and the service company says I need a new control board and door latch. Not in warranty anymore but after a couple long calls to bosch directly they agreed to cover parts but not labor, which is going to cost $232.00.
I thought since this is a replacement from bosch and it is only 2 months out of warranty they would cover but oh no. The manager was rude and basically kept repeating the same thing, unfourtunatly we can not cover labor. I am not impressed that within a 2 year time frame I am on my second washer and it is now having major issues. I guess I expected more from a large company like this. Since this is a replacement from them directly I thought they would stand by their products and cover any major repair no matter what to keep me a happy returning customer.
