About - LG WM3070H[W]A

The LG WM3070H[W]A is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the WM3070H[W]A are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand

South Korean company LG was the first to market with steam washers; the company claims its machines provide real steam (created by a steam generator). The latest wrinkle from LG is what it calls the Allergiene cycle. That cycle, says LG, reduces and removes 95 percent of dust mites and pet dander from a load. LG washers range in price from $900 to $1,600.

Comment:
The washer performed well and it was quiet. After a year of usage, the power was completely down. LG technician came and changed two boards then it worked. However with load, the problem reoccurred. Luckily, LG extended the warranty and covered the repair.

Comment:
Installed on concrete flooring, this machine is so quiet I can't hear it outside the laundry room. No vibrations during spin cycle, but that may be due to concrete flooring. No leak under the door as with my previous Whirlpool model.
Absolutely no problems or quirks yet.
Purchased for $100 less than shown on ratings list, and also qualified for $50 rebate from local power utility.

Comment:
In our house this gets used everyday. I am happy with the washer. I can do big loads and it also does delicates well. The cycle for sweaters is good. I do expensive cashmere sweaters and they are never ruined (people, don't freak out, it's perfectly OK to wash cashmere. But for goodness sakes never put cashmere in the dryer.)

The CR report says 85 minutes cycle length, but that is not giving enough information because the length of cycle time varies depending on the cycle and settings you select. A cold (or hot) wash with 1 extra rinse is about 1 hour and 10 minutes. A Turbowash with extra rinse is about 50 minutes. A Turbowash without extra rinse is only 30 minutes.

If you level the machine perfectly, it does not vibrate wildly, nor does it walk and it is quiet.

Must use HE detergent! Regular will suds too much and will leak out the tiny air vent on the back of the machine. This is well documented (do some google searches). The proper amount of HE detergent is only 2 tablespoons (again, well documented online). To be clear, 2 tablespoons is less than the detergent trays max mark. If you use the max mark as your guide, you will run the risk of seeing the watery, suds leaking out the air vent in the back and you'll see a puddle and you'll freak out and think you new washer is broken. Really, use just 2 tablespoons of HE detergent and all will be well.
