About - Maytag Performance Series 2000 MHWE251Y[G] (Lowe's)

The Maytag Performance Series 2000 MHWE251Y[G] (Lowe's) is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Performance Series 2000 MHWE251Y[G] (Lowe's) are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

I have had this washer less than 16 months and it has broken 3 times. It has cost way more to fix it in that time. Maytag doesn't seem to care when I call about this lemon. Do not buy this product!

Comment:
I got this washer as a Christmas gift so I had no idea that I was getting a washer let alone this one. If I had some idea I would have read the reveiws and picked a different one. After pulling yet another ripped item of clothing from the washer I am mad! I thought the first time it happened maybe it was my fault so I double checked to make sure it wasn't over full or that nothing was stuck. After the 3rd or 4th time it happened I realized it wasn't me. I would rather have my power sucking, water wasting washing machine back.

Comment:
I have had the Washer for about three years, I bought it brand new thinking a Maytag would last. The washer has always leaked out the front door and is occasionally very noisy. I was washing a small load of laundry when one of the fins inside the tub broke free and was banging around inside the washer. The fin caused the rubber around the door to bind up with the clothing and wires that hold it all in place! I am told it is over $400 dollars to repair. Would never suggest Maytag to anyone.
