The Samsung WF511AB[W] is part of the washing machine
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine
models like the WF511AB[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand
Over the past three years, Samsung has introduced a full line of laundry products, with prices ranging from $800 to $1,600. The brand is known for its use of silver for cleaning and Vibration Reduction Technology in its top-line washers. Samsung has added a steam-cleaning option to its washers.
Energy star The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.
Stainless-steel tub Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.
Auto temp. control This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.
Auto temp. control
Auto bleach dispenser Automatic Bleach dispenser releases the bleach at the proper point in the cycle, giving the detergent additives sufficient time to work.
What a pile of junk. Bought brand new; at 11 months the bearing were out. Called Samsung; was told that the parts were not available to repair, and that the national, well-known appliance company I bought from doesn't participate in their exchange program.

They offered a refund...except that I bought on Black Friday, and the refund wouldn't come close to buying a new machine. So, after a while, I received a refund after peeling off the serial numbers and cutting the power cable to Samsung's satisfaction. With the refund money, I bought new bearings and seal and watched a video online to figure out how to repair. Not too hard, really. Also bought a new power cable.

After one month, the bearing were out again. The seal would not keep water out of the tub bearings, so I replaced the seal and bearings again, carefully cleaning and sealing the seal and packing the area with waterproof marine grease.

After 9 months, bearings let loose again. Bought a new tub back (the part with the shaft) to ensure all possible failure parts were new, clean, and as perfect as possible, replaced bearings and seals a third time. Two months later, same issue.

I have two friends who also purchased this machine the same day I did. Both had bearings go out, one at 9 months (repaired by Samsun, then refunded 4 months later when failed again); the other friend had his unit replaced after buying an extended warranty when his failed at 3 months (purchased a different brand).

Had no problem parting this out and selling the used parts online, though. I guess more people are needing parts for these...

Worst Washer EVER
Doesn't Clean Effectively
Is A Headache
Will Not Drain
As A Lesson Learned
We are on our FOURTH Samsung washer in this series. And, unfortunately they will be bringing out a fifth one since they've had to fix this one so many times. Problems: foaming action stopped after 2 months. It WALKS (and yes, it is level). Shocks went out at 4 months. Replaced the drum early on. The print rubbed off so now hard to know which cycle I'm selecting. Half the time the door won't lock. Hot water works only 25% of the time, and that was after they fixed it. 'Pure Cycle' runs ice cold water. Detergent drawer won't drain 75% of the time. They replaced the 'control panel' 2 weeks ago, but this machine is still possessed. We've owned this model for 10 months. And, just like the other Samsung washers (the last three) we experienced problems early on. I would just like my money back, but they just keep bringing out new ones that fall apart.

Warning The Chrome is plastic and paint
Chrome Paint Peeling Off
I am very distraught to see that this expensive top of the line machine is using cheap chrome paint over plastic and it is now peeling off badly. I have never had this happen to any machine in my 40 years of owning washing machines. In addition the door does not appear to be well made. It doesn't lock easily. This machine has been kept inside, adults only.
