About - Whirlpool Duet Sport WFW8300S[W]

The Duet Sport WFW8300S[W] is part of the washing machine test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine models like the Duet Sport WFW8300S[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)

Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.

Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Run Far Far Away from this machine!
By PO'd from Oklahoma on 2/3/2010
Pros:
Adjustable Settings, Energy Efficient, Large Capacity, Spins Clothes Dry
Cons:
Breaks Down, Doesn't Clean Effectively, Noisy, Shakes/Moves
Describe Yourself:
Frequent User
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I owned this machine for 3 years - the clothes never seemed quite clean enough for me, but I accepted it. Mostly noticed with white loads - even with bleach and hot water - never came out white. It was loud and "walked" across my laundry room floor even after multiple attempts balancing it with a level! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY the computer controls go out,(Error code F1)and parts STAY on backorder because it's such a redundent problem!!! Read the user reviews available to you out on the web. You'll see for yourself.

We bought this and matching dryer because we were remodeling and it seemed time to let go of our old washing machine which was so old it had wood paneling on it. I learned of the potential for mold problems on the day it was installed. This machine leaves almost a half inch of standing water in the bottom of the rubber door gasket and anywhere from 3 tablespoons to a half cup of water in the detergent compartment. I keep a towel near it and wipe it down after I am done. From time to time I spray it with bleach. This is a pain, but I think it should prevent any mold/mildew problems. With so much water left behind, it is easy to see how it would happen. I left it stand once just to see, and 48 hours later, most of the water was still there. Other than that, it cleans pretty well. No problems with shaking, and the beeping and clicking is only bothersome at the beginning and end of cycle. (you can turn off at end of cycle.) Kind of miss my wood paneled old washer. They really knew how to make a problem free, dependable appliance back then. The extra bells and whistles on this one are of limited value to me.
