The Whirlpool Duet WFW9250W[W] is part of the washing machine
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, front-loading washing machine
models like the Duet WFW9250W[W] are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Washing performance:
This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound and maximum capacity test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)
Energy efficiency:
This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound and maximum loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.
Water efficiency:
This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load and each machine's maximum load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.
About This Brand
As with Kenmore, Whirlpool has a number of lines: Whirlpool Duet HT, Whirlpool Duet Steam, Whirlpool Duet Sport HT, and Whirlpool Duet Sport. In the coming year, Whirlpool will be promoting and advancing the use of steam on more of its models across the line. Prices range from $800 to $1,600. Whirlpool washers are known for the wide range of model choices and the variety of features on those machines.
Energy star The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.
Stainless-steel tub

Auto temp. control This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.
Auto temp. control

Auto bleach dispenser Automatic Bleach dispenser releases the bleach at the proper point in the cycle, giving the detergent additives sufficient time to work.
We have owned this machine for 18 months. It was a replacement for a duet front loader that lasted only 5 years. Bad mistake buying another one. We have had service 6 times in the last 3 months. 1st round of parts took 5 weeks to come in. We have replaced 2 baskets and a tub along with several other parts. The machine bangs so loudly when it spins you think a 747 was landing in your front yard. We have an extended warranty on this machine but I am getting ready to throw in the towel and buy something else. We have always been pro whirlpool..all our appliances were whirlpool. One by one we are changing them out and will never purchase whirlpool again. Neither will friends or family.

Comment:
We bought this washer as a replacement for another defective Whirlpool washer, which we bought two years ago. The first unit we failed to buy an extended warranty. We installed the new washer (WFW9250WW)on the previous model's pedestal, and the original (matching) dryer still works great. The first unit had the ball bearings burn out shortly after the manufacturer's warranty expired, and Whirlpool's recommened service company wanted over $500 to replace the ball bearings. So we unwisely bought a second Whirlpool washer from [@] instead of paying for the repair, and we bought [@] extended warranty on the new unit. In less than one year, the drum on the new washer broke. The service person that Lowes sent to my house said the drums are poorly welded on the Whirlpool Duets, which causes them to break. He said it is not the customer's fault that these are breaking. Now the new washer, which is less than a year old, is broken again. It frequently gives the error messages E1/F9 and SD, which other reviewers have complained about. Consumer Reports should not give positive reviews to Whirlpool Duet washer product lines just because they wash well for a few test rns. And Whirlpool should be recalling this product line. If you are brave enough to buy a Duet washer, make sure and buy an extened warranty and understand that it will not be worth the high cost to repair it when your warranties expire. Yes, they clean great when they work. But you will be dealing frequently with a broken down washer and having to miss a lot of work to let service people tell you how poorly they are built and how expensive they are to repair.

I've tried everything to remove the smell -- mostly noticed on our towels. Hot water, bleach, the tablets specifically designed for removing mold smell, vinegar, leaving door open, wiping it out.... Today, I am on CR website looking for a new wash machine. I've had it! We've owned the machine (Whirpool GHW9150PW4) for 3 years.

Strength
good control access and selection, cleans well (when in balance)
Weakness
any load with towels or jeans gets out of balance...major pain!
We purchased the Whirlpools WFW9250WW to replace a 7-year-old Whirlpool front loader (GHW9200L) that suffered the dreaded tub spine deterioration. We were happy with the old washer -- other than the shortened lifespan -- and gambled on having better luck the second time around. No such luck! Our WFW9250, mounted on Whirlpools pedestal, attempts to walk across the floor whenever a bulky load is washed. Service call failed to resolve the issue. The machine’s installation and systems all checked out good. We were told the obviously exaggerated wobble (i.e., out of balance) was normal. There are many things Ill do again in my lifetime but buying another Whirlpool front loader will NOT be one of them.
