About - Whirlpool Duet WFW95HEX[ ]

The Whirlpool Duet WFW95HEX[ ] is a front-loading washing machine available from Whirlpool. The Duet WFW95HEX[ ] typically costs between $1,049.99 - $1,164.60.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on front-loading washing machine models like the Duet WFW95HEX[ ].

Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.

Auto temp. control:
This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.

Comment:
Great machine when it worked. As of today, we've been without a washer for three weeks while Whirlpool tries to figure out which of the circuit boards failed. Long time to wait for parts, and Whirlpool mechanics don't return calls. Whirlpool will not fix under warranty, since we bought the machine a year and three days before it failed. We will not buy another Whirlpool product, and nor will any of our extended family.

Comment:
Bought this washer in September 2008. First unit that was delivered wouldn't turn on and the delivery man took it away. Second unit worked fine for awhile. Had error message about 1 year later indicating excess suds. We use recommended detergent in small quantities so not sure why this happened. Anyway, thanks to internet I was able to repair with $100 part ordered online. Apparently the sensor works once then needs to be replaced before the washer can be used again.

Machine worked fine until 2 mos ago when the spin cycle became unbearably loud. Sounds like a jet engine. Machine still functions but afraid it will eventually blow up, besides the noise is not acceptable.

Research online indicates the this is probably a broken frame or bearing problem. Coincidently, two friends with same washer recently had exact same problem. One replaced after learning costs of repair. Another was able to get Whirlpool to pay for new parts after alot of arguing, parts havent arrived yet and repair costs are estimated to be $300 - $400. They are debating just replacing washer.

As others have questioned, why is CR continuing to give this washer such high marks?
