About - GE GTWN5050M[ ]

The GE GTWN5050M[ ] is a top-loading washing machine available from GE. The GTWN5050M[ ] typically costs between $539.10 - $649.99.

Consumer Reports recommends that you match the features on a model to the needs you have. Here's our take on some of the specifications and features that are commonly available on top-loading washing machine models like the GTWN5050M[ ].

Energy star:
The federal Energy Star program, administered by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, identifies a wide range of home appliances that use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models. These appliances can help you use less energy at home and save money on your utility bills.

Stainless-steel tub:
Tubs constructed of stainless steel are likely to be more durable than plastic or porcelain, and they allow for higher spin speeds. Plastic is the next most durable choice.

Auto temp. control:
This feature automatically mixes hot and cold water to reach the chosen wash temperature (which differs on various makes of washers). It's a good way to compensate for normal variations in tap-water temperature and prevents problems caused by water that's too cold, which keeps detergent from working properly.

The Ratings of GE Profile PTWN6250M[WT] were applied to untested model GE GTWN5050M[ ], which in our judgment is enough alike in its performance, features, and specs that our test results apply to both.

We have this washer located in our second home in Florida. We replaced an old GE model. With a water bill, we thought it would be best to go HE. The clothes we've washed have come out clean. The bedding was pretty twisted. It's the noise the machine makes at the start of the wash cycle that we can't take. I honestly thought a car alarm was going off in the neighborhood. I recorded the noise to show the sales person. I wish I could post it here. I'm going to look at the best rated top loaders that are not HE. We have a 30 day return policy that we are taking advantage of.

Needed a new machince quickly and did not do research. Purchased at [@]...(No reflection on [@]...that was the nearest store). The model # for the exact machine we purchased is: GTWN5050MOWS. This thing just does not clean well. Any dark clothes seem to always have some soap stains left in them. (Which means the lighter color ones do too) We have to wash clothes at least twice to get the soap out....and yes we use minimal and appropriate soap. Not much Energy Savings there! Also the thing just stops sometimes. You have to push the start button and hope it starts going again. Many times we will come out to the machine ...(in our garage)...and the thing will be stopped in the middle of a cycle. Very frustrating! We are looking for an old traditional top loader with simple mechanical controls and a real agitator. These new fangled washers remind me of the water saving toilets when they first came out. They didn't work either. Do not buy this machine!

I've only had it 2 weeks but it works great. I do a lot of wash and have been pleased with the job that this machine does. It does make a different type of noise when it is running since it does not have a center agitator. There is no vibration when it washes or spins. I paid less than the price range listed.
