About - Stokke Xplory

The Stokke Xplory is part of the stroller test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, traditional stroller models like the Xplory are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Ease of use:
Ease of use is based primarily on ease of safety harness use, folding and unfolding, adjusting backrest, lifting and carrying, engaging wheel brakes and car seat removal and installation (only for compatible strollers).

Maneuverability:
Maneuverability was assessed by trained staffers on how well the strollers maneuvered S-turns through cones, narrow sections, grass, dirt trails, uphill, downhill and curbs while walking.

Safety:
Safety for each stroller was assessed by our testing, applying the ASTM F833-09--a voluntary industry standard--and stability and usage tests designed by Consumers Union.

Comment:
We love this stroller. It steers beautifully, we love the way it looks, it adjusts to your every whim. It feels light and agile when you push it, but is heavy to actually lift; not a good bet for anyone living in a fourth floor walk-up. That said, the two wheel configuration is good for stairs. I do struggle with the transformation from four wheels to two, but my husband is now an expert, it just takes practice.

The bassinet is roomy and wonderful. Our son sleeps in it when we're away from home. The sheets are great (expensive though, like all Stokke products). The rain cover goes on easily, has kept the baby dry in a torrential downpour, has a flap secured by velcro you can open if it gets stuffy inside for the baby.

We like the adjustable height, and keep ours high because we take the baby to a park with a lot of rambunctious dogs and it's nice to keep a newborn up above dog level. This is also where the sturdiness of the Stokke shines-- it took a direct hit from a golden retriever the other day and the baby didn't even wake up.

The attention to detail is the best part of this stroller. The bassinet has concealed handles that allow it to function as a carrier; the rain cover has an elastic band to hold open the flap, right where you want it to be; the wind cover can be secured to the hood with little toggles; there's a clip that keeps the bassinet flat.

We haven't used the seat yet with the stroller, so can't comment on it. The main downside of this stroller is that it is so expensive-- we could never have afforded it, it was a gift from my in-laws. They got it 25% off because it was in a discontinued color.

Comment:
I found this stroller before planning for a baby and I knew that when I did have my baby that this was the stroller I wanted. My husband is 6'4 and is perfect for him also! So easy to maneuver and will go over any terrain. The only thing is that, like the other reviewer said....be prepared to get LOTS of attention with this stroller! Everywhere we go, you'll hear wow, that's a great stroller, that's the sports car of strollers, etc., and people can't stop looking/staring at it! A new model came out this year and plan on upgrading :)

Also, we are a Stokke family and purchased the crib, high chair, stroller....this is a great product and it all started with the stroller.
