By far the biggest selling brand, with more than 50 percent of the market. Based in Olathe, Kan., Garmin was founded in 1989, and today it has 7,000 employees. Garmin GPS navigators have consistently scored near or at the top of our ratings. In addition to portable GPS units, Garmin makes a variety of fitness training devices and products for marine and aviation use. The company announced plans to sell its own telephone with built-in navigation two years ago, but the scheduled release date has been pushed back several times.

Spoken street names Commonly referred to as "Text-to-Speech," this helpful feature is the ability to pronounce proper street names. For example, a system with this feature would say, "Turn right on Truman Avenue" rather than, "Turn right in 500 feet." Spoken street names allows the driver to confirm directions with street signs without looking at the screen.
I have two issues with this unit, one old and one new. The old issue is that deleted favorites reappear on their own. Garmin customer service advise to reset the device, which would delete all favorites. After I updated the map last fall, it now tells me to do continual u-turns when I travel a common route from TN to MS. As I approach the state line, it says make a u-turn. If I make the u-turn and head back, it will tell me to make another u-turn. Even more strange, this happens with a destination entered and if just driving viewing the map. This will be my last Garmin.

Comment:
Received the Garmin as a gift. We researched various GPS brands prior to purchasing this Garmin. I have had problems with satellite reception since it was new. [...] we replaced it with the exact model thinking that just our unit was defective. We were wrong, the second Garmin has the exact same problem. My daughter has a Magellanwhich is several years old and it does not lose satellite reception when following the exact same routes. What good is a GPS when it isn't able toprovide directions.

Comment:
We were given this item as a gift, but have had multiple problems with it. Among the greatest annoyance with this and other Garmin products is the update capability for maps. You only have a limited time when you receive the unit to update your maps once. Whether you do it or not - you can only update again if you purchase a one time or lifetime update - which is nontransferable to other Garmin products - even of the same type.
Second, this particular unit stranded us in the middle of Washington DC after it failed to obtain a satellite. Even after a reset of the unit, and consistent use, it takes forever to initially find the satellites. I've had other Garmin units that were much more reliable.
Lastly, Garmin is very good at acknowledging when they produce a bad product and readily offer exchanges for the product. The problem is - you buy a brand new unit that fails within weeks or month of ownership - and they send you a refurbished unit as a replacement. I don't want someone else's abused product - I want a new exchange!

Strength
looks good
Weakness
map is inaccurate, software is worthless
I complained to customer service and was told that if I sent in detailed data about the map errors they might fix it, but if they do, I'll have to buy the update. As for the software errors, who knows when they will be fixed.
Many features, Traffic works very well(Boston area) as well as lane assist, speed limit display, estimated time to destination adjusts according to the users driving habits
Weakness
First Nuvi 755T was in accurate, gave instructions to turn after turn was completed many other issues. Second Nuvi 755T traffic did not work. Third Nuvi 755T - works very well
Battery indicates that it is low after 5-10 minutes, but actually lasted 2 1/2 hours. Four weeks ago the battery indicator was working fine. Not sure if the change is related to how I use/charge it.
Everything I need and want. Lane & exit assist, easy to use.
Weakness
None I noticed.
This is my first GPS. I have no sense of direction. I can go anywhere now. It is so easy to use and so nice to see how far to the next gas station, check for resturants, know what exit I need to be in and plenty of notice for exits and lane changes. I got much more than I hoped for.
