| About This Brand |
|---|
Magellan lays claim to developing the first commercially available handheld GPS receiver, the NAV 1000, introduced in 1989. The California company makes portable navigation systems for hikers in addition to automobiles, and it is the supplier of the NeverLost system used in Hertz rental cars. Magellan units have scored well in our testing, and we've been impressed with some of Magellan's newest models. The company is credited with introducing the first portable nav system that can respond to voice commands. But like other portables with that feature, we have seen mixed results in our testing. |

Comment:
I am a home health nurse to rural population. I often do not have cell phone reception in my areas. I find my GPS the most valuable asset I have.
I like that it gives warnings at 1/2 mile and approaching street turn. I can slow down and have my signal light on, which is especially good when I have someone riding my bumper.
About the only cons I have are: does not recognize one way streets or dead end roads and screen can not be seen with bright sunlight.
Mine went on the blink this week, and I am looking to buy another.
After reading the ratings and reviews, I may stick with the same type.

Comment:
A little slow acquiring going from parking lot to immediate turn. Mount in a/c vent with Arkon adaptor allows quick referencing. Sun glare occasional problem.
