About This Brand

Magellan lays claim to developing the first commercially available handheld GPS receiver, the NAV 1000, introduced in 1989. The California company makes portable navigation systems for hikers in addition to automobiles, and it is the supplier of the NeverLost system used in Hertz rental cars. Magellan units have scored well in our testing, and we've been impressed with some of Magellan's newest models. The company is credited with introducing the first portable nav system that can respond to voice commands. But like other portables with that feature, we have seen mixed results in our testing.

Easy updates, large display, if you get off your route it will take you back, spoken instructions are clear. The display is very hard to see in bright sunlight, which is often and it acquires the sat slowly.

Comment:
My sister-in-law & I used this on a trip to Maine, Boston & Cape Cod. Neither of us had ever been to any of these places. This GPS made our trip so safe & smooth! The AAA features are why I purchased it and it proved to be of great value. It took us to all the historical sites with ease & I never had to use my back up map once! This was my 1st time using it & I will never take a trip without it! I will never get lost and being a single female, this brings safety and security to my travels!

Comment:
I really like this units ease of use. Although I am not directionally challenged, it has taken the stress out of going to an unfamiliar city or town. I also like the large, clear, uncluttered display. The suction cup on the windshield mount could be better.
