Comment:
DO NOT BUY TOMTOM. I bought the TOMTOM XXL 530S in Dec 2009. I have drive 30000 miles while attempting to use it. It cannot find hotels along interstates, fuel finder is crude and inaccurate, it is hard to use. I have a car with OnStar which is much easier to use and more accurate. I have added OnStar Navigation to my truck and am much happier with it.

Comment:
I bought this primarily for an out-of-town trip, although I have used it a few times locally. The verbal commands were clear & easy to hear. I have aging eyes & the larger graphics & text are easy for me to see, especially at night when seeing street signs is very difficult. But I found that sometimes the time between when the direction is given & when the action needs to take place was rather short. For example, when traveling on the highway there were a few times when the direction such as 'exit right' didn't give much time to change lanes to get to the exit. It doesn't (can't) take into account the density of the traffic that you're in. However, if you take a wrong turn it does recalculate rather quickly. Except in one instance when I was re-routed off of the highway (in an unfamiliar town) because of an accident, it kept telling me to turn around & get back on the highway.....it's not easy to change routing from highway to non-highway roads. Overall, I do like it.

Comment:
Having owned many GPS units since long before text-to-speech, they solve the problem of reading a map while driving.
Most used during many vacation trips by car. The XXL is easy to use and very fast at recalculating your route.
The maps are way behind Garmin AND map updates are too expensive. Our 3+ year old development is yet to be included.
