| About This Brand |
|---|
A key player in the camcorder market. This camcorder brand consistently produces good to very good high-definition and standard-definition models, some of which have recently topped our Ratings. The Vixia line of camcorders is Canon’s high-definition models. Along with Sony, it still offers a high-definition MiniDV tape model. |

I find that this is a good first camcorder. It is easy to use, yet has enough manual features so the user can learn the basics of video photography. The zoom is smooth, but when zooming even on the slowest setting, the autofocus is slow. When recording with the included battery, the camera throws in several blank frames every so often that cause the video to "stutter" even when the frames are edited out. No blank frames appear in videos recorded using AC power. Overall, I am satisfied with the camcorder.
