Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I find that this is a good first camcorder. It is easy to use, yet has enough manual features so the user can learn the basics of video photography. The zoom is smooth, but when zooming even on the slowest setting, the autofocus is slow. When recording with the included battery, the camera throws in several blank frames every so often that cause the video to "stutter" even when the frames are edited out. No blank frames appear in videos recorded using AC power. Overall, I am satisfied with the camcorder.
