Tin Cans on a String!
07/19/2005
Strength
With no sound, lightweight design is comfortable and doesn't hurt ears.
Weakness
With sound, they hurt my ears (figuratively).
Huge midrange chasm. Substantial resonance from housing. At least they are icy cold to the ears in summertime. Fairly low sensitivity (91dB) means low sound level on portable devices, even dialed to the max. I didn't expect perfection, but I did expect much better performance, from experience with Yamaha YH-1 phones. I compared RH1C with YH-1 on several sources to eliminate the possibility of substantial impedance mismatch from cheapo portable gear, but no real improvement. I also have experience with Stax SRS-5050 and Sony ECR-500 eletrostatic headphones.
